The Planning Authority recently approved a multi-storey car park that will demolish the existing playground on Tower Road in Sliema.  I believe a new overlying playground will replace the existing one.

I would appreciate if the Sliema local council, which submitted the application, could clarify a number of points.

Is the car park which is being built on government land going to be free? If not, could we have the rates please?

Are the parking spaces which exist in the area going to remain or will they be replaced by yellow lines? Will the parking rates be affordable for pensioners and people of average income or will they be targeted only at the few rich people?  If it is the latter case people might as well get a taxi and leave things as they are.

I agree that we have a transport problem but giving away precious land and making us Maltese pay for parking is not a solution, it only brings more disparity between the rich and the poor.
