Dù Theatre group is staging Repubblika Immakulata, an original Maltese satirical work written and directed by Simone Spiteri, at Spazju Kreattiv Theatre this weekend.

The plot revolves around a general election, a wedding and a local feast – on the same day, within the same family; and no one wants to give in. And while everyone tries to hold on tight to the traditions that make them who they are, no one wants to accept that in Malta, we are no longer what we used to be.

The production marks Dù Theatre group’s return to the local theatre scene after a four-year hiatus, and Spiteri’s first script written for adults in seven years. Spiteri is a two-time winner of the Francis Ebejer Playwriting Contest.

The cast is made up of André Agius, Magdalena van Kuilenburg, Mark Mifsud, André Mangion, Pierre Stafrace, Kristjana Casha and Ryan Cutajar.

Repubblika Immakulata will be staged at Spazju Kreattiv Theatre, St James Cavalier, Valletta, today and tomorrow at 8pm and on Sunday at 4 and 8pm. It is rated 16+. For more information and tickets, visit www.kreattivita.org.
