Under the watchful eye of Johng-Sik Choi, President and CEO of SsangYong Motor Company and Pawan Kumar Goenka, managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, South Korea-based automobile manufactures, SsangYong unveiled their highly anticipated new SUV model, the SsangYong Korando, at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show earlier this month.

First introduced to the South Korean public in 1983, the Korando name is currently celebrated as Korea’s longest-surviving name plate. Although through the years the original models of the Korando name have undergone drastic aesthetic and design improvements, the good reputation garnered by the brand name has continuously thrived till today.

Under the recent management of Mahindra & Mahindra, SsangYong Motors Ltd., have seen substantial development and improvement. The new next-generation Korando 2019 model proudly portrays the progress achieved by both companies over the last few years.

The new SUV model features an increasingly developed and matured exterior design, with prominent features such as its front grille and slick headlight complementing the vehicles fierce natural aesthetic. SsangYong’s aim to continually maximize the vehicle’s robust character can noted in both the front exterior profile and rear quarters of the car as they display the solid and resilient nature that SsangYong drivers have come to expect from the Korando brand.

The 2019 model’s interior features have been centered on driver comfort, safety and satisfaction. SsangYong have confirmed that apart from receiving an interior upgrade, the new Korando model offers a longer wheelbase. This feature gives the vehicle improved leg and head room for both front and rear seat passengers, as well as an improved rear loading space with 551 litres of storage when the rear seats are up and 1,248 litres with the rear seats folded.

The upgraded Korando SUV also offers an enhanced line-up of updated tech features, notably the advanced emergency braking system which is operated through a camera and radar setup to apply brakes automatically in case of emergency. The vehicle also comes equipped with both lane keep assist features as well as driver attention alert systems in an effort to further assist driver and provide peace of mind.

The improvements shown on the model quickly made a global impact. The international positive appraisal on the new vehicle within the halls of the Geneva Motor Show have echoed back on to our islands, where SsangYong Motors Malta are actively prepping for the arrival of the new Korando, scheduled for release between June and July 2019.
