TARXIEN RAINBOWS 2

Aquilina 11

Faria 54

SENGLEA ATHLETIC 2

Garcia 24

Grech  89

Senglea Athletic just managed to avoid defeat as a Leighton Grech helped them to a 2-2 draw against Tarxien Rainbows at the Hibs Stadium, on Saturday.

Tarxien struck the crossbar twice after five minutes, first through Jacson who hit a wonderful first-timer from the edge of the area and then Alexander Nilsson attempted to head home the rebound but he was denied by the woodwork.

Moments later, Senglea’s reply came through Augusto Caseres but his low drive was well kept by Maverick Buhagiar.

Nonetheless, it was the Rainbows that forged ahead. Ricardo Faria dribbled past Christian Sammut to send an inviting cross into the box on which Gabriel Aquilina capitalised to net his third goal of the season for Tarxien.

The Cottonera outfit made their pressure count on the 24th minute when Diego Venancio lobbed the ball inside the eighteen and Matias Garcia darted into the box to head past Buhagiar for 1-1.

After the change of ends, Tarxien took the lead for the second time when Faria profited from a Senglea mistake to slot the ball past Farrugia into the far corner.

As time went by, Senglea continued to pin Tarxien into their own half but their chances were all in vain, with the Rainbows’ backline proving to be a tough nut to crack.

Nonetheless, Senglea found a way to snatch a well-deserved point when Grech hit a close-range strike from a tight angle amid the relief of the Cottonera team.

Tarxien Rainbows' Ricardo Faria was named BOV Player of the Match.
