Nadur Youngsters kept up the pressure on GFA Division One leaders Victoria Hotspurs when they edged past SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0.

Nadur enjoyed territorial supremacy throughout the match but found it extremely difficult to earn the full points at stake.

This was also the second match in four days between the two sides. In fact last week, Nadur and SK Victoria Wanderers met in the Knock-Out semi-final with the Youngsters needing extra-time to reach the final.

The Wanderers started brightly and almost took the lead with a free-kick from Audgustine James Obaje that came off the bar.

Nadur stepped up their game and came close with efforts from Marcelo Barbosa, Shaun Attard and Jefferson.

The Youngsters grabbed the winner on 67 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Predrag Djordjevic on Barbosa. The Brazilian picked himself up to score from the spot.

Nadur suffered a blow when Daniel Mateo Bustos was sent off for retaliation.

In the other  top-flight match played last weekend, Għajnsielem picked all three points against Munxar Falcons by the odd goal in three to move clear of the relegation places.

The match was a hard-fought affair which was decided in the final stages.

Għajnsielem took the lead from the penalty spot when goalkeeper Damien Spiteri fouled Antoine Camilleri and from the spot Luis Andre De Melo Lima drilled the ball into the net.

But Munxar levelled matters through a Borja Polo Longarelo inswinger on 29 minutes.

Play continued to be well contested after the break and on 62 minutes Munxar could have turned the result in their favour when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Dylan Mercieca on Diego Martins De Souza.

But De Souza’s shot from the spot came off the bar.

Munxar kept pushing forward in search of a winner but it was Għajnsielem who grabbed the winner in stoppage time when De Melo Lima headed the ball home from an Alberto Xuereb cross.

Sannat win

Sannat Lions recovered from their unexpected defeat to Żebbuġ Rovers when they cruised to a 7-0 win over bottom-placed Qala Saints. The Lions are now sharing top spot with Xagħra United.

Sannat surged into a two-goal lead by the end of the first half through Brandon Said (4) and Ebube Ralph Okpokwu (25).

Qala’s reaction failed to materialise as Sannat went on to seal their supremacy with four more goals from Fabian Xuereb (46), Charlton Mifsud (65), Brandon Said (67) and a brace by Joseph Zammit (70, 76).

Meanwhile, St Lawrence Spurs moved to third spot with a 4-0 win over Żebbuġ Rovers.

The Spurs secured their win after the interval through a brace by substitute Jason Theuma (57, 90), Charlon Farrugia (63) and an own goal by Johnny Grech (87).
