Despite the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Spain in the second UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday, the Malta players have left the field aware of their abilities and confident that this team can continue to grow.

As expected, Spain dominated territory but the Maltese players, with only one playing abroad - Zach Muscat, remained composed throughout the game and even after the second goal, when the game was all but over, the team remain composed.

Rowen Muscat, who entered the fray in the second half, explained that the team now has to look forward in order to continue to improve.

"We put up a solid performance against the Faroe Islands and after this defeat against Spain, I think we still need to look forward because we showed improvement throughout these two games," the Valletta midfielder told the Times of Malta.

Meanwhile, Joseph Mbong, who was in the starting XI, explained that their target in this game was to avoid conceding goals but a couple of mistakes proved costly as Spain's Alvaro Morata capitalised twice.

"Unfortunately, a couple of mistakes condemned us but we are hopeful in the future of this team because the youngsters have left a great impact and with the experience of the senior players, we can learn much more," the Hibernians defender said after the game.
