In the light of Britain’s interminable departure from the European Union, one would do well to revisit the speeches of Jean Monnet, a French economist widely credited as being one of the founding fathers of our beloved European Union.

“Europe’s nations should be guided towards the super state without their people understanding what is happening. This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose but which will eventually and irreversibly lead to federation.”

The above, spoken by Monnet in the 1950s, should leave none of us in any doubt that this totalitarian ‘club’ was designed in such a way as to make leaving almost impossible.
