The mesmerising colour palette of the Mediterranean Sea that has inspired artists throughout history has now been captured by young students of St Ignatius College.

The result is 49 paintings, which make up an exhibition titled Ilma (water), which is open at San Anton Palace in Attard.

This is the fifth exhibition organised by HSBC Malta to mark World Water Day, which falls on Friday. It is actually the opening act of an array of other activities the bank holds every year in connection with the event.

Since 2013, HSBC Malta has invested close to €1 million on water conservation and awareness projects in Malta and Gozo.

The exhibition was opened by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca last week in the presence of Education Minister Evarist Bartolo, Energy and Water Management Minister Joe Mizzi, HSBC Bank Malta plc chairman Sonny Portelli and St Ignatius College principal Maria Pace.

The President called for the continued promotion of ecological awareness and responsibility both within communities and throughout society. “Our commitment to safeguard water is clearly on the UN Agenda 2030 and its sustainable development goals,” she said.

Ms Pace expressed admiration at the students’ creativity and invited visitors to immerse themselves in the art exhibition and better appreciate the students’ artistic imagination and the fruit of their talent, passion, enthusiasm and love for water as a source of life.

All the artworks on display are available for sale via a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The exhibition is open daily from 9am to 4pm until Sunday.
