The Malta Chamber of Advocates, through its Malta Law Academy, and in collaboration with the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta, will again this year be marking World Consumer Rights Day with its Annual Consumer Law Conference.

This year’s conference, on April 5, has secured the participation of Prof. Guido Alpa as key speaker. Since 1978, Prof. Alpa has been Italy’s foremost expert and writer on consumer rights and the development of consumer law, and has authored over 50 leading books on consumer law and civil law subjects.

The conference will be chaired by David Fabri, head of the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta, who will also deliver the opening address.

Prof. Alpa has taught civil law, comparative private law and comparative legal systems at Genoa University, and was until recently full professor at the Faculty of Law at La Sapienza University in Rome and director of the master’s course in European private law since 2004.

Besides having held the role of chairman of the National Bar Association of Italy for many years since 1995, Prof. Alpa is also a visiting professor at a number of universities, including Oregon University and Berkeley in California, the University of London and the University of Oxford, and has also taught at the Malta University Summer School and the Summer Schools of London’s Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and King’s College.

The Annual Consumer Law Conference will be held at the Chamber of Advocates Conference Hall at the Courts of Justice in Valletta between 1pm and 5.30pm.
