The Democratic Party has pledged to cut all single-use plastics from its events and challenged other political parties to do the same.

"It's time to cut the crap," MEP candidate Camilla Appelgren said, adding that one of the reasons she joined PD was the party’s firm commitment to lead by example on environmental issues.

The PD’s presence at clean-ups for years was now being followed up by an even firmer and clearer commitment towards the environment.

“Together we have written a pledge which we are inviting other political parties, local councils, businesses and individuals to take up, which includes replacing plastic confetti with paper," she said.

MEP candidate Martin Cauchi Inglott said there were many ways through which one could reduce one’s carbon footprint and which could also have added benefits.
