A passenger begged airline staff to return to the airport in Saudi Arabia because she had forgotten something at the terminal: her child.

The Malaysia-bound plane had just taken off, but the pilot asked for permission to return, something only done for technical or medical emergencies.

“May God be with us. Can we come back?” the pilot is heard asking in a YouTube video.

“I told you, a passenger has left her baby in the terminal and she is refusing to continue the flight,” he repeats when challenged.

Air traffic controllers are heard discussing the request, at first thinking that they had misheard the pilot, before eventually agreeing.

No other information has been released about how the child had been overlooked.
