A highly illustrated talk on Emvin Cremona will be presented by Fr Julian Cassar tomorrow at 10.30am and repeated at 7pm at The Courtyard, Hilltop Gardens in Naxxar.

Cremona was born in 1919 and died in 1987, leaving behind a treasure of ecclesiastical art in many parish churches, besides contributing to the rich philatelic history of the Maltese islands with 62 sets of stamps, including the stamp issue commemorating Malta’s independence from Great Britain in 1964.

He is regarded as one of Malta’s best artists of the 20th century. He studied at the Malta School of Arts and the Regia Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome. Some of his works can be found at the parish churches of Msida and Ħamrun, Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and the Chapel of the Malta International Airport.

The World Health Organisation headquarters in Geneva and the UN headquarters in New York also house paintings by Cremona.
