A white van with CCF markings (registration plate available) is often seen passing through Attard at about 7.45am en route to the Mrieħel bypass. Siren on, vehicles have no other option to make as it drives past at speed. Last week, the van also jumped the red light near the Corinthia Hotel. One wonders why the driver must always have the siren on, especially since there seems to be a pattern in his journeys. Hopefully, it is not simply a convenient way of beating the traffic.

Works needed

Despite the government’s promise to upgrade all roads, some localities seem to have slipped out of the authorities’ radar. In Sliema, for example, the state of the roads goes from bad to worse. Tigné Street is a classical example. The pavements there also need to be urgently upgraded.

In the way

It seems that despite the Kitchen Garden, in Attard, priding itself on being a child-friendly venue, it has yet to start setting a good example. Delivery people and workmen providing a service there regularly block the narrow street that leads to its entrance. This often causes traffic jams and a good degree of chaos. The management should make sure that such practice ends and that all abide by the rules and refrain from parking on yellow lines.

Safe use

The recent accidents involving gas cylinders raised some concern among consumers, especially elderly people. The indications are they were not caused by faulty cylinders but, rather, incorrect use of or damaged appliances/accessories. It would not be amiss for the government and or the Civic Protection Department to immediately launch a ‘safe use’ campaign.

Stamp duty

Two in a sheet of 10 stamps with a de-nomination of 26c that featured on a Maltapost promotion booklet recently had €5 printed on them. One can only hope all the stamps actually on sale have the correct denomination printed on them.
