It is amusing to hear political candidates debating and saying what they will do for Malta if elected to office.

However, once elected, most of these promises are forgotten and all they think of are excuses for not carrying out their promi­ses. For instance, the favourite excuses of local councils are that they either do not have the money to do the work, or the work required does not fall under their responsibility. The neglect in our towns and villages has to be seen to be believed. Weeds grow uncontrollably where there ought to be plants and flowers; bus stops are filthy and the roads are full of potholes.

People who say that Malta is among the best in Europe say so to fool the Maltese who have never been abroad.
