I would like to thank Mark Said for his very interesting contribution ‘The Star of Malta revisited’ (March 4).

The incident he described is practically common knowledge. However, I am referring to an earlier case.

I am certain of the facts I stated in my letter (February 28) because I was on the ship for two whole nights and three days in stormy seas for a voyage that usually took only a few hours.

The incident I wrote about happened in April 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. I was nine years old at the time and the only child on the ship. All my fellow passengers must be well over 80 or 90 by now if any of them is still alive. The only people I remember by name was a couple on honeymoon whose surname was Zammit Mangion.

It seems this incident was not reported, so I can only expect a passenger or a relative of the passengers to recount and confirm my experience.

If some person has access to the log book of the Star of Malta during 1953, I’m sure this case should be recorded.
