Motorists trying to make it to Valletta on Monday morning had their work cut out for them, as near-gridlock wreaked havoc on their schedules.
Lines of cars tailed back through Floriana’s St Anne Street and ended in complete chaos at the roundabout hosting the War Memorial obelisk, just outside the capital itself.
Carnival celebrations, which end on Tuesday, mean the traditional route used by public transport buses to approach the capital city is out of bounds.
Because of this, buses have to share St Anne Street with other vehicles. The sight of a long row of buses stretching down the entire street meant that public transport commuters did not have it much better than other motorists.
