Mind your step

Speaking of pavements, sometimes it makes one wonder what is more dangerous, using the sidewalk or the road. A damaged services cover on a pavement in Naxxar could soon be the cause of somebody getting badly injured. Do pavements fall under the responsibility of local councils?

Shoddy work

More effort should be put into the upgrading of public places, especially the more frequented ones. A road leading to the Rabat church was ‘repaired’ recently with cement being used to patch it up! Surely, a better job could have been done.

Wrong call

True, people in glasshouses should never throw stones but the Contracting Authority is evidently in urgent need of a proof-reader. A call for tenders published recently requested “the supply of sexually-transmitted infections (STI) with equipment on loan”. That certainly cannot be right. Or is it?

In the way

Though it is always good to see streets embellished with plants, these should not be placed in such a way that they block pavements. This was the case in Naxxar, with pedestrians forced to step off the pavement to go past two large pot plants. There must be some sort of guidelines or even regulations governing such issues.

Noisy business

Why is it that the drivers of trucks selling gas cylinders insist on using the loud horns so early in the morning? Most sellers have a fixed schedule and they always show up on the same day. Consumers can surely keep track of the days when the seller turns up on their street. There is no need for such noise pollution early in the day.
