Mosta picked up a valuable victory in their bid to avoid the drop when they edged Pieta Hotspurs in a five-goal thriller.
The Hotspurs started brightly and after four minutes of play when Jan Busuttil’s inswinging cross was palmed away by goalkeeper Andreas Vella and Neil Pace Cocks saw his shot deflected just wide.
Mosta responded on ten minutes when Demir Imeri’s shot just whizzed past the upright.
On 20 minutes Duane Bonnici raced clear on the right and sent a pin-point pass towards Alex Darlington who saw his effort cleared off the line by Irimaya Jalo.
Mosta took the lead on 25 minutes when from a corner action, Tyrone Farrugia dived full stretch to meet Imeri’s cross and head home.
The Blues doubled their lead on 37 minutes when Dexter Xuereb’s cross-shot completely caught Nicky Vella by surprise with the ball finishing into the net.
But the Hotspurs kept fighting and two minutes later they pulled a goal back.
Busuttil’s thumping drive came off the bar and from the rebound Nicholas Pisani headed home the rebound.
The second half was devoid of scoring chances with Pietá enjoying much of the possession but rarely threatening Andreas Vella in the Mosta goal.
Akeem Roach could have restored Mosta’s two goal lead on 68 minutes but with only Nicky Vella to beat his lob went straight into the hands of the Hotspurs custodian.
Mosta paid dearly for this miss as Pietà equalised on 75 minutes.
Gabriel Mensah made space for himself and beat Andreas Vella with a low drive.
It looked anyone’s game now but Mosta soon restored their advantage when 11 minutes from time they struck the winner.
In a quick break, Roach outpaced his marker and teed up Imeri who slid the ball past Nicky Vella.
Mosta's Demir Imeri was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
