Gżira United strengthened their grip on third spot when they brushed aside bottom-placed Qormi 4-1.

The Maroons took just eight minutes to surge ahead when after eight minutes Haruna Garba hit a low shot that rolled into the Qormi net.

On 19 minutes, Gżira doubled their lead when Juan Corbalan made space for himself before sending a cross towards Nikolai Muscat who fired the ball home.

The Maroons were firmly in command and they headed to the half-time interval further in front when in stoppage time Davide Mansi floored Garba inside the area and from the spot, Andrew Cohen made no mistake.

Qormi managed to pull a goal back seven minutes into the second half when Tensior Gusman beat Justin Haber with a low drive.

But it was Gżira who had the final say when Muscat notched his second of the match to seal a comfortable victory for the Maroons.
