TARXIEN RAINBOWS 0

Hibernians, the season’s revelation team responded in style to Valletta’s comeback victory over Balzan, to maintain their two-point lead at the top of the standings.

It was a vintage show of football completely annihilated neighbours Tarxien Rainbows and the final scoreline reflected the superiority Hibernians enjoyed over opponents.

There was only one team in those early exchanges with Cassar stretching backward to push Marcelo Dias’s looping shot over the bar.

Hibs were on song with Taylon running the show for the Paolites and it was inevitable that he would be involved in the build-up of their second goal.

It arrived on cusp of half-time when the Brazilian slid through to Bjorn Kristensen who fired a powerful drive that lifted the net. Another great goal!

The blitz on the Rainbows’ fort has been completed.

Things looked bleak for Tarxien when they lost defender Prince Mambouana who suffered a muscle injury and was replaced by Marco Botta.

Then, Josè Borg was forced to make another change as goalkeeper Cassar limped off the pitch when aggravated the injury that kept him out of Tarxien’s last two matches.

In the second period, Sanderra’s team were in total control with the helpless Tarxien chasing shadows.

Hibs added to their lead when an awful mix-up between substitute goalkeeper Dorian Bugeja and Daniel Zerafa allowed Taylon to round the advancing goalkeeper and curl the ball into the unguarded goal.

Tarxien could not pick up the broken pieces and their huge gaps in midfield continued showing.

Sahanek sent a splitting pass towards the unmarked Brazilian who slid the ball into the net.

In their next move, Taylon ran through a wide-open Tarxien rearguard to square the ball for Tiago Fonesca for number five.

In the end the superior Paolites were clear winners.
