Around 63,000 violent deaths were reported in 2017 in Brazil, one person killed everyone nine minutes. The situation is so bad in Rio de Janeiro that the Brazilian army has been called in to calm the favelas. The new far right president, Jair Bolsonaro has promised shock therapy to fight crime in the country including a US-style right to bear arms.
