Many years ago, a team of local reporters together with representatives from Kind’s - Auto Sales went up to Brussels to test-drive the first generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

Back then, there was a lot of huffing and puffing about the new small car from Mercedes – and the big question was whether the A-Class would live up to Mercedes standards.

Years later, Mercedes-Benz launched the second generation, and this time around we went up to Budapest to test-drive the new offering. The second-generation A-Class was sexier than the first and was even more fun to drive – but all developed according to Mercedes values.

The new generation A-Class is yet another great leap forward. Sporty and elegant, it is a strong statement from Mercedes, one that says, “Look at all my models and find one which you wouldn’t want to drive.”

The latest generation has really hit a home run

You won’t manage to find one.

The A-Class has, from the start, placed itself as a compact hatch with one major selling point – the three-pointed star on its nose. But while its predecessors all gave substance to the badge, the latest generation has really hit a home run.

Step inside and the tech-laden interior is a beautiful combination of form and function. The quality is top notch, seating is spacious, comfortable and ergonomic and the infotainment system one of the best on the market. The dashboard presents all instruments clearly and visibly, without getting in the way of the driver’s attention. Safety standards are high while at the back, boot capacity is ideal for family needs.

The A-Class is an important model for Mercedes: in reality, it’s the brand’s biggest-seller, especially when taking into account that the official figures for the second most popular – the C-Class – roll saloon, estate, coupe and cabriolet numbers into one grand total.

On the road the car performs smoothly and adds plenty of pleasure to driving. And when you hit the road, speed and handling come into their own, boosting the A-Class to horizons of fun and beyond.
