• When shopping around, consumers should not only compare prices but also guarantees and conditions of sale.

• Not reading the terms and conditions of lifetime guarantees may lead consumers to an uninformed buying decision.

• If a lifetime guarantee is tied to the product’s expected lifespan, it should stipulate the number of years the product is expected to last.

• Commercial guarantees mentioned in adverts and other types of promotion are legally binding even when not specifically mentioned in the contract of sale.

• When traders fail to honour commercial guarantees, consumers may lodge a complaint with the Office for Consumer Affairs.
