Q: I bought a new TV from a local seller. After a year and two months the TV developed a fault. To fix the TV, the seller had to change the connection box that powers the TV. The repair was done under guarantee. Since the box was replaced with a new one, I asked the seller to give me a two-year guarantee on the box. The seller refused my request. What are my rights?

A: By repairing the faulty TV at no extra cost to you, the seller has honoured his legal obligations. Even though the faulty part was replaced with a new one, since the repair was done under guarantee free of charge, you are not entitled to a new guarantee on the replaced part, but the original guarantee continues. What you are entitled to is an extension of the guarantee for the period of time the seller had the TV in his possession to carry out the repair.
