The Youth of the Year Award 2018, organised by the Kerŷgma Movement and sponsored by APS Bank, was on Friday night awarded to Mellieħa Youth.

The trophy is awarded every year to a youth or group of youths who set an example to other youths through the work they perform in the voluntary sector for the benefit of people in need.

Mellieħa Youth is a social-religious group which took shape in the early 2000's and is composed of individuals aged 12+ from all walks of life. Its motto is “Moving Forward Together – Reach, connect, grow, discover”. Apart from weekly meetings, the members organise regular activities for charitable causes thus getting the chance to experience first-hand some of the things they discuss during their meetings.

The other nominees for this year's award were: Matthew Deguara from Siġġiewi, il-Grupp Żgħażagħ Corpus Christi, Għasri, Mellieha Youth and Sezzjoni Żgħażagħ – Soċjeta’ Filarmonika Santa Marija, Żebbuġ Gozo.

This trophy is awarded every year in honour of the late Dr Rudolph Saliba who was Kerygma Movement’s first president.
