The simmering rivalry between Valletta and Hibernians will be extending to this season's FA Trophy after the two clubs were drawn against each other in the quarter-finals draw held at the MFA Trophies Lounge on Tuesday.

This season Valletta and Hibernians are among the main protagonists in the fight for the Premier League title and they are currently sharing top spot in the league championship.

The bad blood that exists between the two clubs was not helped by this month's second round fixture which saw Valletta beat Hibernians 2-1, in a match full of controversial referees decisions that forced the Paolites to lodge a protest, that proved unsuccessful.

Now the Citizens and the Paolites will meet again in the FA Trophy next month with the winner, surely making a significant step towards winning the knock-out competition.

Gżira United, the other team fighting for the title this season, have been given a kinder draw as they will take on Pieta Hotspurs.

Birkirkara, last year's finalists, were drawn to face Mosta.

Balzan are favourites to again move into the semi-finals when they play Tarxien Rainbows.

The quarter-final matches will be played at the National Stadium on February 23 and 24.

QUARTER-FINAL DRAW

  • Mosta vs Birkirkara
  • Hibernians vs Valletta
  • Tarxien Rainbows vs Balzan
  • Pietá Hotspurs vs Gzira United

Matches to be played on February 23 and 24.
