Michael, a Maltese Catholic had a Protestant friend called Jack, who, to be polite, once joined him in church. During high sung Mass, near the main altar, an acolyte was swinging an incense burner, from which sweet smelling fumes were emanating. Jack asked Mike what that was. Mike told Jack that the lovely smell came from incense. Mike asked Jack for his definition of incense. Jack immediately replied: “Holy smoke.”
