The head of Jobs Plus, Clyde Caruana, has said that another 13,000 foreign workers are now needed in addition to the 55,000 already here, in order for Malta to maintain its economic growth, (The Sunday Times of Malta, January 20).

It seems that nowadays most people do not care what is happening to our country. Has Mr Caruana considered where these extra 13,000 people – as well as their families in some cases – will be accommodated, and if our infrastructure will be able to cope with this increase in population?

Mr Caruana tried to convince the public of the benefits these foreign workers will bring, such as a better standard of living and wage increases, but said nothing about the need to build more apartments, possible cuts in the supply of water and electricity, overcrowded schools and hospitals, overflowing sewage and roads congestion.

It appears that some people are ready to sell their souls for an extra euro and do not care at all about the future.
