Why is the government so adamant in building the tunnel to Gozo? If the reason is to avoid the long queues and waste of time, a very simple and cost-efficient way is to create a booking system just like airlines and ferries have all over the world.

One simply books the ship one wants to travel on, prints the ticket and presents it at the paying booth.

Do we need to build a tunnel to Sicily to avoid the travel time? To avoid all the traffic to the north we can also use the Grand Harbour as another loading port to Gozo, thereby reducing by at least half the traffic going all the way to Ċirkewwa. The infrastructure already exists because Virtu Ferries use it for the catamaran to Sicily. The booking system also reduces the volume of cash handled at the ticket booths. The staff can be relocated to the other loading port so no jobs are lost.

The money from the tunnel can be used to build new ships. This obsession to build the tunnel does not hold water, it just destroys the little countryside we still have left.

The land reclamation will also not be possible because there will not be any debris from the tunnel to be used.

We will also save the seabed.

All this is possible if we have sensible MPs in Parliament who have the common good at heart. The time has come where enough is enough.
