John Guillaumier never really lost his acerbic irreverent and insensitive take on anything uplifting and religious, as amply expressed in three consecutive letters since one of mine last appeared here. Authentic and exemplary Catholics know what kind of bond to keep with our Lady. Although she is rightly venerated as the privileged one, enjoying the incomparable dignity of being the Mother of God, they also know she was only a humble handmaid of the Lord, an ordinary housewife but immaculate, endowed with sublime gifts and mediatress of all graces and heavenly favours.
I challenge the stance in his letter ‘Devil’s advocate’ in one simple sentence. We honour Our Lady just because she set us on the right track to heaven by exhorting us to “do whatever He [Jesus] tells you”.
Latria, or adoration, is reserved for God alone.
