ST ANDREWS 1

Davis 28

MOSTA          1

Rafael 90

St Andrews and Mosta shared the spoils in an entertaining match.

Mosta opened in sparkling fashion, and it took a timely intervention by Adrian Borg to prevent Juri Cisotti from shooting goalwards.

But Martin Davis, was an ever-present threat, and he took advantage of shambolic Mosta defending to grab the lead shy the half hour mark.

The Jamaican chased a long pass, and when Romeu Romao and Massimo Sammartino collided, he moved into top gear to round the onrushing Andreas Vella and slide a perfect finish into an open goal.

St Andrews were suddenly buoyant and Kevaughn Atkinson arrived unmarked at the post on the end of a dangerous Davis’s cross but headed wide.

Mark Miller made a double substitution at half-time, bringing on newcomer Duane Bonnici and Dexter Xuereb for Romao and Misael Miranda respectively.

Mosta had far more possession in the second half but rarely threatened a calm and composed Saints defence nor did they manage to test their goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona.

One-nil up as the match drifted its dying stages, St Andreews had good reason to be optimistic about their chances of gaining all points but their hopes were dashed one minutes from time.

Pouncing on a hesitant clearance by Calleja Cremona, Rafael arrowed a stinging drive over the goalkeeper for a last-gasp equaliser.

Martin Davis of St Andrews was named BOV Player of the match.
