PIETÁ HOTSPURS 0

HIBERNIANS 2

Mbong 36

Tony 37og

Hibernians retained their BOV Premier League leadership after easing past Premier League strugglers Pietá Hotspurs at the Tedesco Stadium.

The Paolites dominated proceedings in the opening stages but they never really threatened Pietá’s custodian Nicky Vella as the Hotspurs were closing the lines in an organised manner.

Brazilian forward Tiago attempted his luck from outside the area but failed to hit the target.

As the half wore on, the game was edging closer to a 0-0 before Joseph Mbong hit a splendid shot from a tight angle to deceive Vella and put the Paolites ahead.

Stefano Sanderra’s team doubled the score a minute later when Hibs recuperated the ball in the midfield, Tiago darted into the box but his close-range shot was blocked by the Pietá goalkeeper. However, the ball ricocheted onto the feet of defender Tony before ending up into his own net.

These two goals galvanised the Paolites as they started to mount pressure on their opponents to extend the lead.

In the closing stages of the game, Ramon Zammit handed a debut to central defender Samuel Okoh and Sheldon Pisani, who was deployed at the heart of the midfield while Andreas Vella entered the fray for Hibs for the first time a well.

Lady Luck was not on Taylon’s favour as he continued to squander the opportunity to extend Hibernians’ lead, but Hibernians' victory was never under any threat as they sealed their 11th win of the season.

Hibernians' Tiago was named BOV Player of the match.
