Low-cost airline Volotea has announced that it will be operating two additional routes from Malta to Verona and Genoa.

The airline will fly to the two Italian cities once a week from June: to Verona on Tuesdays and Genoa on Wednesdays.

From April, it will also be extending or increasing capacity on its existing routes, flying weekly to Nice and twice weekly to Bordeaux and Bilbao.

The flights are on sale on the airline website.

Commercial country manager Valeria Rebasti said during a presentation on Thursday that Volotea was aiming to reach 100,000 passengers in Malta in 2019.

The airline, which aims to connect small and mid-sized European cities directly, has been operating in Malta since 2016 and in Europe since 2012.

It currently operates 319 routes between 83 cities and has carried 20 million passengers since the start of its operations. The airline exceeded 1,000 staff last summer and expects to carry a total of 7.5 million passengers in 2019.
