The south carriageway of the recently-widened Luqa Road in Santa Luċija is being widened once more, this time for a segregated pedestrian and cycling track.

Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg, who inspected the works on Monday morning, said the road is being widened by three metres.

Last year the road was widened to have two comfortable lanes in either direction.

Dr Borg said this road never had pedestrian and cycling facilities.

He also pointed out that pedestrian and cycling bridges are planned for Vjal l-Avjazzjoni, Blata l-Bajda and the Central Link Project. There will also be pedestrian bridges at the Marsa Junction Project.

A segregated pedestrian and cycling track is also being laid Triq Bormla, known as taċ-Ċawsli, between Żejtun and Żabbar.
