A 45-year-old who escaped from police custody on Friday was recaptured and arrested on Saturday after 24 hours on the run. 

Abdulsalam Ben Hamed, a Libyan national, had managed to escape Qormi police station shortly after noon on Friday.

In a statement issued on Saturday just after 3pm, the police said that Mr Hamed had been found and arrested.

The police thanked members of the public who provided information leading to his recapture.
