The Joy Gospel Singers will perform at St Catherine of Alexandria parish church, Żejtun, tomorrow at 7.45pm during the local council’s annual Christmas concert.

The gospel choir will perform classical Christmas songs in Maltese and English in various styles of gospel music, including traditional and negro spirituals, as well as in a vibrant and uplifting style of contemporary Christian music, to convey a positive message of hope.

During the concert, children from the parish will set up at life crib during some of the songs, and members of the Żejtun Literature Group will read some of their poems on social and festive themes.

During this event the Żejtun local council will also present the Carlo Diacono Trophy to the last year’s best three band musicians from the city’s three bands clubs – Beland Band Club, Circolo Musicale Santa Caterina and Żejtun Band Club.

Before the concert, a ceremony will be held at 7.30pm in Republic Square, Żejtun, to commemorate the 221st anniversary since Żejtun was awarded the title of a city, Città Beland, on December 30, 1797, by Grandmaster Ferdinand von Hompesch.

The concert will be held at St Catherine of Alexandria parish church, Żejtun, tomorrow at 7.45pm. Attendance is free and open to all. For bookings, call the local council on 2166 3866 or e-mail chircop.sean@gmail.com.
