The recent Eurobarometer survey gauging public opinion throughout the European Union, which shows that the Labour government in Malta enjoys the highest trust rating among all EU member states, must have ruined the Christmas spirit of quite a few. I have in mind: Simon Busuttil, Adrian Delia, Manwel Delia, Karol Aquilina, Jason Azzopardi, Andrew Borg Cardona, Ana Gomes, David Casa, Roberta Metsola and those politically-desperate people who gather in Valletta on the 16th day of each month to vent their frustration.
In fact, the result of this survey proves that what I wrote in my letter ‘Corrupting “corruption”’ (December 21) is quite true. The great majority of the Maltese and Gozitans are ignoring the doom and gloom stories they invent daily in order to try and undermine the government’s credibility and popularity.
Will they ever learn that their ultra-negative campaign is having a boomerang effect? I don’t think so.
