Serie C club Monza are set to hold a short training camp in Malta during the winter break between January 7 and January 13, the timesofmalta.com has learnt.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has bought the Serie C outfit last September, only 18 months after selling Serie A giants AC Milan to a Chinese consortium, concluding a successful 30-year period in which they won the Champions league five times.

Belusconi has put his former aide at Milan Adriano Galliani again at the helm on Monza.

Monza are 12th in the Serie C Group B and have drawn their last match against Feralpisalo before the winter break. They resume their league campaign on January 19 with a home match against Virtus Verona.

New coach Cristian Brocchi, formerly of Milan and Brescia is hopeful that their training stint in Malta will have a positive effect on Monza’s performance in the next five months.

"The squad will resume its training on January 7," Brocchi said.

"We will be travelling to Malta for a one-week training camp where climatic conditions will be better for us to prepare for the second part of the season."

This will be a busy period for Galliani as he intends to overhaul the side he inherited from the previous owners.

Monza are the second Italian side to visit Malta this month as this week Fiorentina will be making the trip to Malta for a short training camp between January 5 and 9.
