Several people were stopped and ticketed by the police on Monday night after they were found breaching traffic regulations.

Amid an anti drink-driving campaign in the run up to the new year, the police said on Tuesday three people were caught over the legal alcohol limit behind the wheel.

Other breaches included driving without a valid licence, driving without a safety belt, driving without insurance and driving a car with fake number plates.

The inspections, during which 558 cars were stopped, were carried out by members of the traffic and dog sections.

They were carried out in Baħar iċ-Ċaghaq, Birkirkara, Burmarrad, Mellieħa, Mġarr, Naxxar, St Paul’s Bay, Kappara, Lija, Pembroke, Msida, St Julian’s, Qormi, Marsascala, Tarxien, Żejtun, Luqa, Gudja, Floriana, Paceville, among other areas.
