A photo showing graffiti sprayed in Msida recalling Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder emerged as The Economist magazine's second most popular image of 2018.

The sprayed words 'Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes' stand above the date October 16, 2017, the day when Ms Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb.

The graffiti is sprayed onto a boundary brick wall in one of Malta's busiest junctions. The photo, which shows a man walking past the wall, was taken by Dan Kitwood and is credited to Getty Images.

The image, re-shared by The Economist on its Instagram account elicited a reaction from Matthew Caruana Galizia, the late journalist's son.

"Spend millions of euros to spread lies with advertising on Facebook. Or buy a can of spraypaint for €3.50 and use it to tell the truth to the entire world," he wrote on Facebook.

The Economist's most popular image of 2018 was a striking photograph of a Saiga antelope.
