Archbishop Charles Scicluna has once again appealed for solidarity with migrants risking their lives in Mediterranean waters.

His appeal follows another one on Saturday in which he and the other Maltese bishops called for concrete action to save a group of migrants stranded at sea.

During his end of year homily during Mass at St John’s CoCathedral on Monday, Archbishop Scicluna thanked the Armed Forces for saving some of these migrants.
Others, he said, were still waiting for shelter in a European port.

“We humbly and enthusiastically ask all the people of Europe to show a strong sense of solidarity.”

For how could one celebrate and ignore those who needed help, he asked.

He said that for celebrations to be true, one should be happy and allow others to be so and not abandon anyone by forgetting or ignoring them.

The archbishop’s homily in full can be heard in the video above.
