The tariff on local and foreign registered mail with one delivery attempt will more than double on Wednesday after the fee increase was approved by the Malta Communications Authority.

Maltapost said in a statement the addressee has the option to collect registered articles from the Easipik parcel locker service free of charge on a 24/7 basis from 17 localities in Malta and Gozo.

Earlier this month, the company said it was in talks with the authorities for a review of tariffs which had been frozen for years, making the cost of mail services in Malta the lowest in the EU but causing the company a slide in its profitability.

Maltapost also said that by agreement with the Malta Communications Authority, the collection of mail from letterboxes as from Thursday will be held as follows: Monday to Friday 5.15pm instead of 7pm, Saturday 12.30pm instead of 3pm.
