Maltese artist Anna Galea is exhibiting a number of works in a solo exhibition titled Stills.

Galea, who is currently based in Dubai, is best known for her abnormally large floral watercolours, though she is also very keen on life figure painting and abstractions. In Stills, being held two-and-a-half years since her last solo exhibition in Malta, still life paintings of traditional Te Fit-Tazza and Pastizzi, as well as fruit and vegetables, take centre stage.

These still lifes are presented in a realistic manner and display Galea’s artistic flair in her typical painterly style even though these paintings are executed in oils on canvas rather than watercolour.

Galea graduated twice from the University of Malta and is the recipient of several awards. Her watercolours have been honoured as masterful both in the US and elsewhere, where as recently as spring of 2016, she was a featured master watercolour demonstrator at the International Watercolour Convention in Fabriano, Italy. She has exhibited her art extensively across the main capital cities of Europe, as well as in Dubai, Melbourne, Bogota, New York and Washington DC.

Galea’s paintings have featured in books of the highly-acclaimed International Artist publishers of the US, on telecards, calendars, book covers and other publications. Her works can be found in various private collections of art connoisseurs, in palaces and museums, banks and offices.

The exhibition is being held to raise funds for the Malta Hospice Movement and is being curated by Charlene Vella. Stills is open until January 18 at Opus 64 Gallery, Sliema (except New Year’s Day). For more information, visit www.annagalea.com.
