Malta was represented by five junior synchronised swimmers at the Ukrainian Open.

The Maltese contingent produced a fine showing in Kharkiv as they returned home with two bronze medals.

Alessia Cardona Taliana placed third in the Solo Free with a score of 63.8. Her effort was three points better than her previous personal best.

In the Duet Free, Cardona Taliana teamed up with Ingrid Djincharadze and Kirsty Calleja (reserve) to take the bronze medal with a score of 64.1, which is also a personal best.

This was the first time that Malta won a medal in such a high-level competition and in a FINA Senior Age group which attracted the participation of teams from Poland, Switzerland and Ukraine.

Ana Culic and Vanessa Mairangas, both aged 15, presented a difficult choreography with high level hybrids in the Duet Free.

This was the first time that Culic and Mairangas participated in a senior programme and they achieved a very promising result of 63.5.

The team’s participation was in line with the ASA plan of participating to the European Juniors in St Petersburg later on this season.

Coach Albertina Onsea and Loredana Cassone, a National Judge and Team Manager, accompanied the girls to the event.
