Customs officials on Friday seized 48 kilograms of cocaine that was destined to Greece.

The drugs were found in a refrigerated container from Ecuador, the department said in a statement.  The container was selected for scanning following risk analysis carried out by the department's Container Monitoring Unit.

Following a scan, several packets containing a white substance were located, and consequently discovered hidden behind a panel above the refrigerant compressor.
Forty individual packets weighing a total of 48kg were seized.

The substance was tested and preliminary results indicate it is cocaine.

The approximate street value is calculated to be €5 million.

The case was handed over to the police drug squad for further investigations. An inquiry is being held.

Earlier this week, customs also seized 5,020kg of cannabis resin, with a street value of approximately €7,450,000
