On average, 73 of every 100 persons aged between 15 to 64 years are working,
according to the National Statistics Office’s labour force survey, which said that total employment stood at 239,544 in the third quarter of the year.

This represents an increase of 6.8 per cent when compared to the corresponding
quarter of 2017.

There were 9,065 unemployed persons and 161,742 inactive ones.

• Male employment was 81.9 per cent while that for females was 63.1 per cent
• The largest share aged between 25 and 34 years, for both males and females
• Self-employed persons accounted for 13.9 per cent
• Majority of employed persons – 204,494 - worked on a full-time basis
• 35,050 had a part-time job
• Full-timers work 41.6 hours while part-timers work 22.8 hours per week
• Average annual basic salary was estimated at €19,076
