Former Floriana player and coach Nicolas Chiesa has been appointed as a scout of Argentine giants Boca Juniors by newly-appointed sporting director Nicolas Burdisso.

Burdisso, a former Boca player himself, was handed the task of finding a new coach for the Xeneizes following the departure of Guillermo Barros Schelotto who left his post after the Copa Libertadores final defeat to arch-rivals River Plate.

Chiesa will be one of the two right-hand men of Burdisso - the other being Anibal Matellan - and will be focusing on the recruitment of players for the Argentine club, as they look to keep bring in more talent at La Bombonera Stadium.

"I will be working alongside another person under Nicolas Burdisso, who has been appointed as sporting director at the club," Chiesa told timesofmalta.com.

"This job is a reward for all my efforts and commitment that I made throughout my career, including the years I spent in Malta at Floriana which were beneficial for me."

Among the football personalities who heaped praise to Chiesa over his new appointment was also former Inter player Esteban Cambiasso, with whom Chiesa shared the football fields at Argentinos Juniors and Club Parque.

Chiesa's experience in Malta has made it possible for him to be approved by Boca president Daniel Angelici to form part of the club's new technical staff.

The 38-year-old spent three years at Floriana, with whom he played and won the 2017 FA Trophy.

During his spell at the Greens, he played 73 games, scoring 14 goals and assisting on 15 occasions in all competitions.

He was also promoted to first-team coach following the departure of Giovanni Tedesco, guiding the club to the 2017 BOV Super Cup triumph at the expense of Hibernians.
