A new production of the comedy The Acrobat by Agnes Moon is soon to be staged by Unifaun Theatre Productions, with the help of a recently-launched crowdfunding campaign.

The play will be staged by Unifaun Theatre Productions at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta in February.

Following the rags-to-riches story of a professional thief who finds himself trapped in the enormous abode of a rich and mysterious vampire, the Unifaun Theatre production marks the first time a play of this genre is produced in Malta.

Although the production has already secured some funding from the Malta Arts Fund of the Arts Council Malta, Unifaun Theatre’s artistic director Adrian Buckle hopes that the crowdfunding campaign on local platform Zaar, which has a €500 total goal, will also help the project reach out to the public.

“Zaar is a user-friendly platform, which not only engages directly with people in Malta, but also supports the project creators by suggesting what works and what doesn't,” Mr Buckle said.

The Acrobat includes professionals not only from Malta, but also from New York, UK, Italy, Switzerland and Hungary.

Contributors donating just €5 will be acknowledged in the theatre programme, while a €10 donation also receives a complimentary balcony ticket to one of the performances. With a €15 donation, contributors receive a complimentary stalls ticket, and for €20 they receive a complimentary balcony ticket, a copy of the original novel by Agnes Moon on which the play is based, and their name printed in the programme. For a €35 donation, the €20 package is upgraded to include a complimentary stalls ticket instead of balcony. This is enhanced even further for a €100 donation, where the contributor will also receive a free advertisement in the theatre programme.
