HIBERNIANS 2
Taylon 43
Tiago 45
SENGLEA ATHLETIC 0
Hibernians are the new leaders of the BOV Premier League after dispatching sorry Senglea Athletic 2-0 at the National Stadium, yesterday.
The Paolites began to press Senglea Athletic higher up the field, gaining more and more ground while the Cottonera outfit opted to stick to quick breaks.
Hibs opened the score on the 43rd minute. Bezzina’s shot was blocked by Senglea’s goalkeeper but Taylon pounced on the rebound to slot the ball into empty net.
A couple of minutes later, the Paolites doubled their lead through another Brazilian, this time Tiago. Degabriele sent an inviting cross into the box on which Taylon failed to capitalise as his effort struck the woodwork before the ball dropped on Tiago’s feet to make it 2-0.
In the second 45 minutes, the game never came to life as Hibernians were controlling the game through their ball possession while Senglea lacked sill and structure to stage any reaction.
A quarter from time, Taylon pounced on a Salvati mistake but his effort went in vain.
Senglea replied with a Caseres header but it was not enough to test Hogg.
Six minutes from time, Potenza’s team were handed a lifeline when Hogg floored Caseres inside the penalty area. However, Braian Volpini failed to convert from the penalty spot as he fired the ball wide.
Taylon of Hibernians was named the BOV Player of the match.
