MOSTA 3

Roach 59, 90

Gżira United rescued a late point in a nerve-wrecking 3-3 draw against Mosta at the National Stadium, yesterday.

Gżira were guilty of some misplaced passes in the opening stages of the encounter which proved costly for them as the Blues broke the deadlock on the ninth minute.

Juri Cisotti sent an in swinging corner inside the box on which Rafael connected with a towering header to open his Mosta account, on his second appearance for the club.

After the change of ends, Abdilla put youth Luca Brincat into the fray in order to have a proper number nine as a target man.

Nonetheless, it was Miller’s team that found a way to double their lead with a solo effort from Garnet Roach, who beat two markers and let fly a firm drive past Haber amid the shock in the Gżira clan.

Seven minutes from time, Gżira pulled one back through Edison Zarate when the former Mosta player pounced on a rebound to head the ball into empty net.

On minute 88, the Maroons thought they have salvaged a point when Andrew Cohen found the back of the net with a cross-shot.

Yet, there was more drama to come in this match as Mosta went in front again through an unmarked Roach, who slotted the ball into empty net.

However, Gżira’s captain Cohen came to the rescue with a perfectly-weighted first timer to preserve the Maroons’ unbeaten run.

Mosta's Claude N'Gessan was named the BOV Player of the match.
